With BIRD 1 reaching its end of life on 31 Dec 2023, we'd like to show some examples of how to convert old BIRD 1 configurations to BIRD 2 and which new features can be used for better route policy setting. We'll also show some use cases which were not possible with BIRD 1 at all and as a bonus, also some use cases only available with BIRD 3.

In this tutorial, we will be setting up a home router with NAT64, PREF64 and DNS64 in order to run your home network using IPv6-only or IPv6-mostly, with IPv4 provided only for legacy devices. There will be both theory and a practical demonstration. We will also cover automating such deployments.
